Lagos, 14 September 2016: With just six weeks to go until the MTV Africa Music Awards Johannesburg 2016 (MAMA), a dazzling line-up of artists is set to headline Lagos’s annual Road to MAMA party, taking place this year at the Hard Rock Cafe, Lagos on Sunday 2 October.

The MTV Africa Music Awards Johannesburg 2016 are brought to you by Joburg Tourism in partnership with Absolut Vodka and Google, and in association with MTN and DStv.

Headlining the gig is reggae-dancehall star Patoranking, who wowed Durban music fans at last year’s spectacular ceremony and took home the award for MAMA Best New Act at the 2015 MAMA. He’ll be joined by Hip Hop freshman Nasty C who’s – set to heat up the MAMA main stage in Johannesburg - and fast-rising Hip Hop star Ycee, who’s also been confirmed to perform at the show. More Nigerian Hip Hop artistry will be showcased by prolific rapper Skales, while Runtown will be showing off his R&B/reggae moves. Rising Afro-Pop/Highlife newcomer Koker and award-winning “Love don’t Care” songbird Simi complete the line-up.

There will be added excitement at this year’s gig, as MTV Base will be revealing nominees in 7 different MAMA categories, including Best Female, Video of the Year and Artist of the Year.

Rounding out the evening with some hot deck action will be DJs Xclusive, Humility, Kaywise, Hazan and Ttb.

In attendance were Hollywood actors, Danny Glover (Played Dr Ohiaeri) and Tim Reid (Played Dr Sam Adeniyi Jones), Kemi DaSilva-Ibru, Associate Producer 93 Days, producers/executive producers of 93 Days, Bolanle Austen-Peters, Dotun Olakunri, Steve Gukas and other dignitaries such as Jimmy Kolker, Assistant Secretary for Global Affairs HHS, Dr Benjamin Ohiaeri, Owner First Consultant's Hospital, Dr Sam Adeniyi Jones, Director Office of Global Affairs HHS, Dr David Brett-Majors, US Department of Defense and Former WHO expert, Kent Brantly, American Ebola survivor, Dr Morris Ibeawuchi, Nigerian Ebola survivor, Bockari Stevens, the sierra Leonean Ambassador to the US, Denas Morris, Center for Disease Control, Elizabeth Sadove, US Food and Drug Administration, Linda Thomas-Greenfield and Amanda Jacobsen, US Department of State.

During the Q&A session, the producers of 93 Days discussed the motivation behind the movie and how Nigeria is delighted to its story to the world through.

Directed by Steve Gukas, the powerful movie is a compelling story of courage, determination and sacrifice as displayed by the team at the First Consultant Hospital, the Nigerian Government and well-meaning organizations in combating the Ebola virus that broke in 2014.

The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), widely recognized for showing the most outstanding films from around the world, has selected 93 Days for screening this at the Isabel Bader Theatre in Toronto, Canada this week.
Showing in cinemas nationwide from 16th September 2016, 93 Days is definitely a must-see and a movie that signifies a major landmark in the history of Nigeria.

Battery going low or dead is the nightmare of nearly all phone users. Some Symbian phones have been known to work for days without you needing to charge the batteries, but Smartphones (Androids, Windows and iOS) have a huge appetite for battery ‘juice’.

Come to think of it, although the Curiosity Rover presently on Planet Mars has a battery that weighs about 5kg, it can power the rover for a minimum of 14years. Ahah! I guess you would want such a battery for your devices too. Lol. Sorry to burst your bubbles, the scientists in the Smartphone-Club are yet to think of such project. Pending that time, all you need do is to adhere strictly to the following suggestions:

1.    Avoid leaving your Bluetooth on idly: some phone users are addicted to using their Bluetooth with their hands-free headset and other devices. These have the capability of sapping off the juice in your battery. Every fifteen minutes your Bluetooth is on can take off an hour of battery time (depending on the phone type). It makes lots of sense to use your Bluetooth device sparingly.

2.    Don’t leave your Wi-Fi on when not in use: your Wi-Fi is the elder brother of your Bluetooth. If you check them well, you will notice. Whenever you are done using the Wi-Fi, the best thing to do is to turn it off. This will reduce the juice drain and hotness typical with most smartphones. Only turn it on when you are in need of it.

3.    GPS service is a battery consumer: just like your Bluetooth and WiFi, your phone battery gets seriously consumed when you activate your GPS. Minimize the access you grant apps to your immediate location.

4.    Always use ‘Auto Brightness’: aside from the negative effects bright

screens have on your eyes/sight, keeping your phone screen dim at most times will enhance your battery life. The ‘auto brightness’ effect automatically adjusts the screens glare to suit the ambient of your immediate location.

5.    Avoid longer screen timeout: your phone has the capability to keep the screen ‘lit’ for various seconds and minutes after receiving the last input or tap. You can access this function via your phone’s General Settings menu. As the case may be, set your screen timeout to the shortest available time. This will help save your battery life.

6.    Avoid leaving apps to run in the background: unlike Symbian phones, smartphones can multitask. This multitasking (running multiple applications simultaneously) is a serious battery killer. It’s like a mother trying to breastfeed more than three infants at once. Some apps (and games) are notorious for battery juice sapping. When such apps are running in the background while you do other things you are actually being unjust to your phone battery. If u shut down apps that are not in use, you battery will be happy (figuratively).

7.    Limit the use of ‘Vibrate’: for a fact, vibration consumes more battery juice than ringtones. You can actually feel this when you hold your phone while it vibrates. Rather than use vibration at all times, if you wish not to be disturbed it’s advisable to switch off all notifications then keep the phone in view so that you can easily see the blinking light when calls or messages come in.

8. Embrace Power-Saving modes: all smartphones have power-saving features. As the name implies, these features will help you save you power. QED. There are lots of apps that can help you save power too. Visit your apps store (E.g Google Play Store) and download any Battery-Saver of your choice. Be sure to read appraisals and users comment so as not to pick the wrong ones. For instance, take a look at the image above, at just 32% the power saving feature can prolong that phone's battery life for over 16hours (standby time).

LAGOS STATE COMMISSIONER ALLAYS FEARS OF RESIDENTS, APPEALS FOR CALM

The Lagos State Government has allayed the fears of residents over the torrential rainfall witnessed in the State on Sunday, saying that necessary steps had been taken to avert any incidence of flood disaster in the State.

The State Commissioner for the Environment, Dr. Babatunde Adejare, in a statement on Sunday said that the State Government had in recent times carried out intensive tour of some flood prone communities in the State to clear up blocked drainages and canals.

The commissioner wondered why any right thinking person would be dumping refuse on water courses and drainages created for free flow of storm water, saying the numerous campaigns against such practice was for the interest of the residents.

“Canal is a storm water channel for the conveyance of storm runoffs, they are God’s natural protection for holding water during massive flood and it is not a place for anybody to build a house or dump refuse. Those in the habit of doing such must stop henceforth,” Adejare said.

Allaying fears of teeming Lagosians apprehensive of the rain, the Commissioner said that indiscriminate dumping of refuse in the gutters had caused a lot of environmental disasters, warning that the government would no longer tolerate the building of illegal structures along channel right of ways in the state.

To this end, he said the government had since begun demolishing illegal structures and shanties erected on the drains especially in flood prone areas.

Adejare, however, urged residents living on wetlands and flood prone areas to be cautious and careful, urging them to limit their movement if possible and to move to higher ground if need be.

He explained that it is their responsibility as a government to protect lives and property, appealing for the cooperation of all Lagosians in their quest to avert any flood mishap in the state.

In view of the reports of Annual Flooding Outlook and Rainfall Prediction released by the Nigeria Metrological Agency (NiMET) and Nigerian Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) and the subsequent Seasonal Rainfall Prediction Press Conference by the Ministry of the Environment held on Thursday, August 18th, 2016 in the Ministry, the State Government in order to avert any unforeseen circumstances has stepped up the cleaning and clearing of all drainages and canals across the State so as to ensure free-flow of water whenever it rains.

The Commissioner for the Environment, Dr. Babatunde Adejare, who pronounced this in a press statement reinstated that the Sanitation Exercise will be observed state-wide between the usual hours of 7.00am-10.00am on Saturday 27th August,2016, during which, there will be restrictions on human and vehicular movement across the State.

Dr. Adejare implored Lagosians to come out en-mass on Saturday to clean and clear the drains in their neighbourhood so as to continually prevent flooding in the State. He warned that the period of the exercise should not be used for any social engagement or sporting activities, but for serious cleaning of the Environment.

According to him, “Lagos being a coastal State with high water table levels and flat terrain is susceptible to flooding. We must therefore imbibe habits which will reduce to the barest minimum the incidence of flooding, which has so far been contained in the State”.

He said that the target of the State this year is to sustain past records of flood abatement and avoid the incidences flooding which as characterised the past years, adding that, “this can only be achieved through effective collaboration of the people”.

The Commissioner advised residents of the State to desist from habits such as arbitrary dumping of solid waste into drainages and canals, stop building on drainage alignments in order to continuously sustain a flood-free Lagos. He also warned residents who still patronize cart pushers to desist from this illegal act as it is still an offence. He advised them to dispose their waste through LAWMA / PSP Operators.

He urged all residents, to ensure that their environment is kept clean at all times and free from storm water stagnation, which could also be a breeding ground for mosquitoes.

Allaying the fear of the populace on flooding, he stated that “flash flooding maybe experienced in some part of the State, but would disappear within a short period of time”.

He therefore, warned Inter-state and Luxurious Buses Operators, Transport Owners and Road Transport Workers to comply with the restriction order on human and vehicular movement between 7.00am-10.00am, stating that anyone caught violating this order would be apprehended and prosecuted, while passengers in such vehicles would also be prosecuted according to the State’s Environmental Sanitation Laws.

The Commissioner assured the people of Lagos of the commitment and determination of the State Government to attain a sustainable, safe and clean environment. He therefore urged Lagosians to support Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s vision of a cleaner and healthier Lagos by abstaining from bad environmental practices such as open defecation and urination, littering of the highways and roads amongst others.

Visiting the ancient town of Ede, Osun State you will see great improvement as the town now host 2 Universities and 1 Federal Polytechnic. We have to visit the community for 2 days recently because the Drummer of Peace chooses to host this interview in Ede instead at his Lagos office. After a breakfast of Akara and Ogi, we sat down to talk about his life and music.

Good Morning... Please can you briefly introduce yourself to Nigerians?

Drummer of Peace

I am Prince Adewale Laoye, popularly known as The Drummer of Peace. I am a Traditional Drummer, Yoruba Folk Music Revivalist, Lyricist, and Master of the African Drums. I was born into it, and it, has been air to me. I am a Prince from Ede, Osun, State, Nigeria, which is one of the ancient towns in Yorubaland.

My father's mother came from a popular drum family in Ede.

I love music very much, and I am a member of the largest drum circle in the world since year 2011, Through this organization, we Propagate Peace through our drums, always especially to mark the world Peace day annually in September.

I am also the CEO and founder of Royal Home of African Talking Drum called (Rhatdrum).

I have represented my country in international competition (ACCU) which UNESCO, organized, I was presented to represent my nation, Nigeria. Through Mr. Kabir Garba, (Art Editor, The Guardian Newspaper) in year 2008, i was featured in a documentary on the Yoruba Drums; the Bata Drum, and Dundun Drum. I am very passionate about my roots, that's why am trying to revive our traditional music, dance, attires, and our culture in general.

Amazingly, I was presented my "Royal Talking Drum' at the tender age of 3 months by my maternal uncle the late Pa Ajao Ayangbayi. With the interest of my parent, singing and drumming became part of me. I can say music is hereditary because my late father, was a great drummer, singer, and a wonderful organist too. I have loved drumming, and singing, from childhood as I was always thrilled with the fact that I could actually talk with my drum and also watching the Royal Drummers any time I visited the palace with my father always triggered something in. Drumming actually exposed me to elderly gatherings and gained a lot cultural instructions from the elders. I learnt to be humble, courageous, and wise including improving my value for the Yoruba culture. I was always inspired by talking drummers as they would greet me with their drums, and till today I am still inspired.

You are set to release a single soon according to online rumors, how true is it?

Yes am set to release a very educative, and informative single album very soon which I titled "Kilo wo?" What do you wear? This music is very percussive, melodious, and to crown it, it is a very danceable music. I worked on this single for close to 2 years because I want to release a song that will be good to the ears and still add value to the society. I am using this single track to kick against indecent dressing in our society. Our society is littered by all manners of cultural abominations and this music will address them. The single will be available online very soon because we want to release for both Nigeria and foreign audience at the same time.

How did you come to naming the single "Kilo Wo?

The tittle "Kilo Wo?" what do you wear? Used to come to my mind anytime I come across those who put on indecent attire and I thought of addressing that issue through music. It took some weeks before I concluded to pick one out of two titles that I had in mind, I had "Aso n mowo" (I clad cloth) and 'Kilo wo?" What do you wear? In fact, It was "Aso n mowo", (I clad cloth), that came to my mind during composition of this track.

After meditation upon meditation I sought the opinions of my friends and family I asked them to pick one out of the two titles and surprisingly most of them choose "kilo Wo?" What do you wear?

What do you as the Drummer of Peace wish to achieve with the release of Kilo Wo?

I want my fans, the youth, and the whole world to know that you don't need to be nude before you can be a celebrity or a great and famous artist. Celebrities are supposed to be good examples for the society to emulate. Our youth should dress the way they want people to address them, with respect. Our ladies must try to respect themselves by dressing decently. I want my fans to know that I am not an old folk song traditionalist but a young man reviving wisdom for this generation to know who they are.

Yes, I am a traditionalist, but not an old one. I am walking with cultural wisdom needed for today and the future.

Kilo Wo? Is saying we need to still hold honour and respect for our way of live and cultural heritage. We are not supposed to be following Western attires or sex sells facades or fashion trends but our own which has outlived and still outlives anything Western.

African originality is what Kilo Wo? Expresses and that is why the song is arranged around a traditional theme with a little fusion of western styles. What do you wear? We wear who we are, and that is why, we are great and beautiful people.

We are really what the outside world should be coping.

We noticed that your attire is uniquely done? Is it a reflection of your royal heritage?

The concept of my attire is unique because is local attire of Yoruba people of Nigeria, What is unique there is that I use it to send message and to educate. It’s our local attire yet very beautiful with meaning. This is Batick attire design. The pattern on my chest is gotten from the shape of a Cassava leaf, which represent agriculture and farming, which formed part of our cultural heritage and which is no longer encouraged by our leaders here in Nigeria. They have forgotten that. "No farming, no food, no food, no nation, "in fact, no farming, no cotton, no textiles, no fabrics, or dyes”. Now that oil is not selling, our leaders now are asking us to go back to the farm; can you see our fathers were right? The name of my outfit is "Kilo Wo style" what do you wear?

* The Cap (fila)- made from Aso Oke (a Yoruba fabric) is a symbol of maturity.

* The Pendant is a symbol of unity

* The Braclet on my hands Reflect my Royal Heritage..

A forceful crusade against road begging by Lagos State Governor Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, has kept on yielding more positive result, as the Rescue Operations Team of the State Ministry of Youth and Social Development, has captured Hadiza Umoru who hails from Niger State, for begging with twins she borrowed from another woman.

The arrest was made a week ago around Costain area within the state. She was then taken to the Rehabilitation and Training Center in Majidun, Ikorodu for further interrogations.

Preliminary findings shows that she was actually not the biological mother of the twins. The twins belong to her sister whom she called Aminat. Suffice to say the Aminat has not yielded to invitation by the authorities.

As indicated by Hadiza, she averagely makes about #600 daily. The sum peaks at #1,000 when ‘business’ booms. She and the real Twin-mother shares the spoil at ration 2:3 respectively.

It is hoped that the government will continue to take destitutes of the streets and give them a better life

From my personal experience and that of those in my bloggers' community, it is obvious that Google has fiercer codes of conduct for ‘Naija’ bloggers right now. It is like hunting, you need to differentiate when to pause and wait from when go for the kill. If you really must apply for AdSense now, get experienced webmasters and Google experts to check for errors before you give it a shot.

Meanwhile, there are viable AdSense alternatives that you can ‘approach’ for monetization. AdSense is not the only ad network. Okay?! Advertisers abound, and they need numerous ad companies to help them reach their myriads of potential customers. The Naija thorough-breeds will say ‘at all, at all na im bad pass’. Better have something than nothing.

Although this post will dwell on AdSense alternatives, it is imperative I point out that bloggers do well when they personally source for adverts and sponsored posts. Many self-made bloggers have gained healthy incomes from that venture.

If you allow them to place banner advertisement or content from their users on your website or blog, they will in turn place your adverts or promote your blog posts on someone else's website or blog for free. You get online credits for running other blog ads on your site, this credits make you ads to run on over 3,000 websites/sites on the Adblabla Network.

Aside that, they periodically dish out ‘sponsored posts’ to their members. A sponsored post is a full page article about people’s products and services. This article is published permanently on 1000+ blogs on their ad network. They pay you to make those posts for them on behalf of their clients. I have personally benefited from this many times over. They also have forums where bloggers meet to share ideas. Another good side of this company is the Publisher’s personal Dashboard. It intrigues me to see well-coordinated statistics, far more complex but easy to understand dashboard when compared to foreign ad companies.

10.    Get ‘Crafty’
Are there some crafts you are very good at? Can you make dresses, souvenirs or decorations? What are you waiting for? Make some for friends and family who will ‘appreciate’ your effort then get them to recommend you. They can help to refer/market you. And before you say Jack Robinson some income will start flowing in.
