Processed and Fried Foods

A lot of people asked me ‘’what not to eat when you are constipated?’’, the simple answer I give to them is that processed and fried foods should be avoided if you are suffering from constipation. Greasy, processed and fried foods, such as French fries, doughnuts, corn chips, pizzas, onion rings, contains very little fibre and have a tendency to slow movement through your digestive tract. These types of foods can bind you up and leads to constipation.

To avoid constipation, you should try to stay away from processed and fried food, start eating more of fresh and unprocessed food that has got all the required nutrients and fiber intact. Eating fresh fruits and vegetables should be prioritized over processed, canned or fried food.

Dairy products

Does milk cause constipation in adults? Dairy products are a major part of our diet; they are also called the binding products or constipating foods. Dairy products such as milk, cheese, butter, cakes are very low in fiber and high in fat. When a dairy product is take in excess, lactose found in dairy products is responsible for gas and bloating in the digestive system, which leads to constipation. You may like to take fruit sherbets to keep you fresh and provide beneficial nutrients instead of dairy products to prevent constipation.

Bananas

Do bananas make you constipated or poop? That is the question most people ask. You should know that eating bananas make you constipated whereas it can also cure it, this simply depends on how ripe is the banana that you are eating.

Unripe bananas have a lot of starch content in them; this can cause bloating and as well leads to constipation. The pectin fibre contained in the unripe bananas draws more water from the intestine track towards the stool, and lack of water in the intestines can cause hardening of stool. On another hand, ripe bananas have soluble fibers which help to stimulate our bowel movements and therefore make it easier to pass stool.

Caffeine

Caffeine found in black tea, aerated drinks, coffee, and chocolate is a great stimulant which promotes regular bowel movements. However, same as bananas, it can only cause constipation if you are dehydrated or lack enough water. Caffeinated drinks act as diuretics, and make you urinate more than often. Therefore, the frequent fluids excreted or decrease in body water through the kidneys is not able to moisten the stool, which leads to constipation.
